CCL member Steve Crowley Featured in CCNY Annual Report

Stephen CrowleyCCL member Steve Crowley was featured in the City College of New York Division of Science Annual Report for his work to create an on-campus community for grad students in science and engineering!  Steve and his colleague, Jose Pinto, are aiming to “stimulate give and take between engineering and the sciences by encouraging camaraderie and exchange of ideas” says Steve.  Steve and Jose plan professional development workshops, seminars, and social events.  They recently organized a very successful “open mic” night in which science and engineering students shared their research in an informal atmosphere. Castaldi selected to fill inaugural laboratory of excellence visiting scholar chair position

Marco Castaldi has been selected to fill the inaugural laboratory of excellence (LabEX) visiting scholar chair position at Ecole des Mines. This position is funded by Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the National Agency for Research, and Ecole des Mines d’Albi-Carmaux.  The LabEx designation is given for 10 years to the top 10% of laboratories in France by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of France.  The funding will support research on heterogeneous interface reaction kinetics, in particular gasification and catalysis, and will support another student in the EDM-CCL collaboration.

Castaldi named new chair of Research and New Technology Committee of AIChE

Marco Castaldi is now the new chair of the Research and New Technology Committee (RANTC) of AIChE.  The main activity of RANTC is to keep AIChE on the forefront of new ideas coming “down the pipe” in which chemical engineers can have an important contributing role. RANTC is the entity that identifies, nurtures, and deploys professionally relevant technologies that strengthen AIChE by attracting and retaining practicing professionals involved in those technologies. February 25-27th.  The ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit is the premier event dedicated to transformative energy solutions. This unique event brings together thought leaders from academia, business, and government to discuss cutting-edge energy issues and facilitate relationships to help move technologies into the marketplace. The 70 graduate-level students selected to participate in the Student Program have the opportunity to attend the Summit, participate in additional student-focused panel sessions, and network with corporate recruiters. One opportunity is for graduate students to network with companies looking for new talent and for companies to meet the next generation of energy leaders.
